- Account and Profile Data: Which includes names, email addresses, dates of birth, account passwords, profile names, and content preferences (e.g., favourite genres and artists).
- Streaming and Usage Data: Detailed records of your interactions with our platform. This includes viewing/listening history, time spent streaming, search queries, content ratings, and playback behaviour (e.g., pauses, skips, and rewinds).
- Technical and Device Data: IP addresses, unique device identifiers (such as Smart TV UUIDs, Apple IDFAs, and Android ad IDs), browser types, operating systems, network provider details, and approximate geographic location derived from your IP address.
- Financial Data: We do not collect financial information. Payments Australia Pty Ltd manages and collects information with respect to purchases made through Artist Apps (Stripe). Please refer to Stripe’s privacy policy for more details on how they collect and manage your information, including your financial information.
- Sensitive Information: We do not collect sensitive data (such as health metrics, racial origins, or religious beliefs).
2. How We Collect Personal Information
We gather data through transparent interaction points on our platform:
- Directly From You: Information you provide when registering an account, setting up profiles, participating in surveys, or contacting customer support.
- Automatically via Platform Use: Data collected dynamically via cookies, web beacons, and embedded analytics tools as you navigate our app, website, or Smart TV interface.
- From Third Parties: Marketing insights or demographic data occasionally acquired from authorised promotional partners, social media integrations, or advertising networks.
3. Purposes of Collection, Holding, Use, and Disclosure
We process your personal information to deliver a smooth and engaging entertainment experience. Specific purposes include:
- Service Delivery: Managing active user accounts and facilitating concurrent device streaming.
- Personalisation: Generating tailored content recommendations, curating specialised user interfaces, and remembering your playback progress across different devices.
- Platform Optimization: Diagnosing technical buffering issues, optimizing video/audio encoding formats, and building new interface features.
- Marketing and Advertising: Sending service updates or promotional offers (you can opt-out at any time) and, where applicable, displaying relevant advertisements matched to your viewing preferences.
- Compliance and Security: Detecting fraudulent multi-account abuse, preventing unauthorized account sharing, and enforcing digital rights management (DRM) licensing boundaries.
4. Anonymity and Pseudonymity
All user accounts with access to news feeds and comment sections will required users to adopt nicknames or pseudonyms before accessing these features.
5. Data Security, Storage, and Deletion/De-identification
We treat your personal data and streaming histories with strict confidentiality:
- Digital records are stored inside access-controlled cloud computing infrastructure secured by modern database encryption.
- Internal data access is restricted exclusively to authorised software engineering and customer support personnel.
- We retain streaming records only as long as necessary to support your account functionality, analyse platform metrics, or fulfill legal obligations. Inactive account data is securely purged or completely de-identified.
- Indie Wax destroys/de-identifies all user information it no longer needs to retain in accordance with the Act and the APP 11.
6. Overseas Disclosure of Personal Information
To stream content reliably, we utilise global content delivery networks (CDNs) and cloud database infrastructure.
- We may disclose components of your personal and technical data to technical partners and cloud service hosts located outside Australia.
- These recipients are primarily located in Australia, United States and European Union.
- Before moving data across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure these third parties maintain data protection measures equivalent to the APPs.
7. Accessing and Correcting Your Personal Information
You have a legal right to request access to the personal data we hold about you—including a copy of your streaming history records—and to ask for updates.
- Self-Service Tools: You can view, modify, or update your profile names and email contact preferences at any time directly through your account settings panel.
- Access and Correction Requests: For formal data file exports or system updates, contact our Privacy Officer via the details below. We do not charge a fee for lodging a request, though complex archival requests may incur a reasonable processing fee.
8. Complaints and Dispute Resolution
If you believe we have handled your data incorrectly or breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you can lodge a formal inquiry with our team:
